Thumbs up Dust Bunnies

I just cleaned out all the dust from my main computer. there was about a 1/8 inch layer of dust between the fan and cpu heatsink. i must say, i am very impressed with the results:

-deeper sound from the CPU fan (less high-pitched whining)
-about a 4C drop in cpu temps after a cold boot.

moral of the story: clean out your computer at least once every 6 months.

I started using fabric softener sheets, like "Bounce" about a year ago. I have my wife save them for me from the laundry. I tape them over my two unfiltered case vents, Works wonders! Not on 1/20th the dirt!

No change in running temps.

my computer probably isnt as accesable as yours. i have it in a desk, with an average of 2-3inches of space on all sides, except the back and front.

I'm nowhere near as tight in my situation. but these are paper (thick paper) thin sheets, space shouldn't be a factor.
