what to trust : nvidia systutil (48C) vs temp probe (43.5C)

Ok basically here is the distuation:

Even after applying the AC3 correctly my cpu is appearing to run hot at idle (48C fan on full). Ok so I decide maybe th reading it wrong...

I take of the HSF, clean the AC3, reapply etc. I put one of those slim temp probes on the pcb, witht he tip of the probe about <1/2cm away from the cpu die. I wanted it to be close enough to get a good read, without having to worry about it touching the die.

Boot up, run nvsystem utility at idle it says the die is at 48C
SO I bend down to look at my little lcd temp probe display: 43.5C

What?

Is the 43.5 inaccurate due to the placement of the probe? Or is the 48C inaccurate becuase the mobo probe is like between the pcb and the socket, which I would imagine creates a heatpocket under the chip, and increases temps?

What you think? BTW im using a A7N8X-E Deluxe, there are diag's online that show where the cpu mobo sensor is.

Motherboard temperature readings can can be notoriously innacurate.

ahh....bluestreak....it seems you have discovered the conundrum of temperature..which is right and which is not...now you understand what i was talking about in the other thread.
i'll ask you this? which side of the cpu in relation to your case is the diode? the fan side(rear of case) or the other. if you agreed with the former all is good..however..your sensor is too far away to be accurate. chances are that the temp is off by lots..think about it..your sensor has all that space between it and the die...air could be flowwing over it, and the temp will be @ least 3-4c off because the heat is getting to the diode via the pcb...it's gonna loose a few.
i just do this...go by the highest...but you can be sure that nvidia's temp readings are better than mbm5...unless you have manually set mbmb to match the temps from bios it could be your harddrive temp it's reading..(ive done that one a few times before).
consider your self lucky..you have a common board so others here should be able to help you..my board is so new i can't find ANYONE with one.
