Thermal paste application and removal

hey guys i just recently had to send my motherboard to get fixed and i want to put some artic silver 5 paste on the cpu and the gpu on my 9800pro. I've never put thermal paste on before by myself. I have and AMD64 3200+ with stock HSF. I was wondering if you guys could give me tips on how to remove the old paste and how to correctly put the new paste on with the correct technique.
