Asetek WaterChill Kit

well here we go! This is my first go at building a custom computer, something other than a dell. I first got the kit and rushed to put it in and made my whole case so crowded and ruining my airflow. And we all know heat equal component death!!! I attached some pics of the before mod:

All i did was move my HD's to the 5.25" bays and relocate my radiator, and at the same time cut out the old HD rack that was taking too much space!!!

This all results in a nice temp drop

Before: Idle: CPU: 38C
Case: 35C
Load: CPU: 41C
Case: 35C

After: Idle: CPU: 37C
Case: 28C
Load: CPU: 40C
Case: 30C

And then a final pic of al all done:

Now all i need is a 120mm low rpm fan to fill the top exhaust hole from before and put a grill on it along with rubber strips on those rough edges. And this whole mod only took about 4 1/2 hours for a newb modder like me!

Nice drop in case temps.

I have something that I was wondering about and maybe someone can explain why this would or wouldn't be a good idea.

you are going:
->
/ \
res -> pump -> cpu -> "Y" adapter->north bridge->GPU-> Rad->
\ /
->

Why not try this

->north bridge->
/ \
Res-> pump-> CPU "Y" adapter-> Rad-> Res
\ /
-> GPU --------->

I just though that since the north bridge and gpu blocks are smaller and have greater flow restriction it would allow for more flow.

OK that diagram didn't come out.

What I was trying to show was instead of going from the outlets of CPU into the "Y" adapter, take one outlet and go into the north bridge and take the other and go into the gpu then take both those outlets and go into the "Y" adapter.

my flow goes from RES->Pump->RAD->CPU->NB->GPU

i did some research and found out that this is the best way for this setup because people have tested various setups. The cpu needs to connect to the Y fitting because it needs to keep equal pressure flowing out of the antartica block to work best.

"He who dares, wins."

IOW

Try some different combos and measure the results... (Somehow?)

That will work as long as the two legs are balanced to have the same water flow in them. The CPU block is almost certainly designed for equal water flow in both directions. If you upset that balance, it will probably hurt the efficiency of the CPU block, although I have no idea how much.

Exactly what they say on Asetek support forums.
