How to clean a copper heatsink

Hi guys, just cleaned up my glaciator 2, no need for fancy chemicals, i just used a bowl about 1/3 full of vinegar, and 2/3 water, then put the sink in to soak for about 2 hours, then turned it over, and left it, making sure it all got soaked, it cleaned up as good as new with no scrubbing at all! then i just washed it off in water and blow dry it with a fan ( dont use heat as this will just make it oxidise again) will post a pic in 10 mins

Another way to clean a shiny penny or something copper is to take a cup. Put tap water into it. Take a straw and blow into the water with the straw (breathe out). It adds Carbon Dioxide to the water, and makes an acid. But the thing is that you have to blow for quite some time to make a strong enough acid to actually do something.

(I have a very good science teacher.)

Well I read that this would work in an article on eco-friendly household cleaning alternatives, so I just now tried it. KETCHUP. It took a fairly crummy looking penny down to base metal after about 30 minutes "dwell time", no scrubbing.

So now we know why NOT to throw out all those extra packets they toss in with the french fries order!

For you Brits: substitute Worchestershire sauce!

We have ketchup... its just as popular over here as it is in the US, Besides I don't think Worcestershire sauce is acidic.. tastes damn good tho!

Hmm. My Glaciator(1) seems to have more shine, but I may be wrong as I haven't looked at it for two months. The "matte" finish as seen in Randome Nonsense's first pic doesn't float my boat.

I bought some vinegar for dipping the Glaciator. Is the 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water necessary? Is pure vinegar too strong?

And the question of the Glaciator's built-in fan. If you're willing to force the fan out of the HS, probably breaking it, how difficult is it to cut away the supporting structure of a replacement fan? So that it fits properly in its cradle, for want of another word.

Leaving the original fan in place while carefully dipping the HS into an acid bath seems tricky, if only because keeping the fan high and dry while rinsing all the acid of your choice off of the HS may be very difficult.

It was extremely nice of the folks at Millennium to send the seniors at the old same place a Glaciator, gratis. I think they wanted the publicity a lot sooner, though.

It's a great HSF! I was just afraid to use it for a long time. Shazam, it's a scary heavy chunk of copper!

What if you submersed your MB in ketchup, like the fishtank idea? Connections would always be untarnished. Smelly though after a while when it turns brown.
