i have mine OC'd to 410core 750mem I would go more but after about an hour it gets up to 60c and that kinda scares me. should i go with a new VGA cooler like the Thermaltake Giant III or the NV Silencer 3 (5900XT model)?

60c is fine - assuming the sensor is accurate.

you mean literally between the core and heatsink?

if so, you shouldnt do that, the heat sensor blocks heat from being passed to the heatsink. if you remove it and place it alongside the core, your temps will naturally be lower because the sensor is farther away from the heatsource, but the actual core temp of the card will drop by about 5C if not more because the sensor is not there anymore to block the heat transfer.

An unoverclocked 6800GT is like a Ferarri with a speed limiter.

.........Must...........over...................... ...........clock......

I have my 5900 running @ 440/940 and it hits about 60 when gaming. I just mounted a quiet 80mm fan at the edge of the card "old School" and all is well.

I am using the 61.77 now. I get a little faster with the 56 series but actually bench slower. The newer drivers give me artifacts. If you bring your Core down you might get a higher mem clock....plus I have my AGP volt set at 1.8 in my BIOS...

FX 5900, that is prob the diff. I had it flashed to a 5950U for a while but it was really buggy. It did run a lot cooler though. At least that is what the software said...
