I got bored once and cleaned a no smoking sign into my parents old system.

I only use compressed air as a last resort. I perfer a camel hair brush on the end of a vacume hose. Grounded of course.

If you think that is bad you should check out what dog hair does to a system.

smoking isnt that bad for pc. my mam smokes 40-50 a day near a pc, its pretty clean inside, other than the dog hair
and the one in my fathers (he's a vet) consulting room is pretty chalk full of various hair types

Funny, that box came from a house with an indoor dog as well. (a pretty big one) But this was after a couple of years (at least 2 if not 3) of me not cleaning it out.

problem is that the stuff just doesnt blow off a smokers PC, the tar binds it on there and requires a solvent to get the dust off, I have been blowing out PC's with 75psi out of the compressor (through a drier of course) for years at the rate of a couple hudred per, and so far I havent had any probs from it other than blowing dust bunnies into hard to get out of places

I don't like useing compressed air because it just puts the dust back into the air then it settles on the furniture and I have to dust once every 4 months instead of once every 6 months. I hate dusting. But I don't mind the vacume, maybe becuase it is like useing a power tool or something.

Dont get me wrong, an R2 unit rolls in the donkey with me,can't be clouding out the offices the only prob I've had is the occasional missing sticker or cd-extraction cable

I only use the compressor ou in the lab.

I take the stuff outside on the porch because if I'm going to take the time to clean the thing I do a total disassembly and rebuild.It makes for a better job and keeps the dust out of the house.Another thing I do is try not to bring air into my case.All my fans (3) only remove the heat from the components and case,except through a small area in the front that takes in air past the hard drives.Works pretty good but I still go over it once a year.

Who's ever had to clean a Pentium 4 stock heatsink thats full of 4 year old bong water? That is not fun

Its the heatsinks that get the worst over time IMO. Also had to clean servers that had been in a cigar bar. Cigerette smoke is a pain, but at least it doesnt have that pungent concentrated cigar smell. That stuff is cruel and unusual.
