Not really, as long as you are a decent machinist. Now, home-made direct-die; that not only requires a set, but a touch of insanity.

When I make it myself I know it is fine. I don't trust things that I haven't made or seen made.

Good job QSDT,

You seem to know how to use your tools very nicely. One thing I do question is, what type of radiator or Heatcore are you going to be using. Seeing as though you have opted to use Aluminum as your block, I would suggest staying away from any Copper Rads. The corrosion with the two metal's mixed will make that nice block of yours one big chunk on black gunk. Even when used with an antifreeze or water wetting agent, corrosion will still occur.

I hope to see the progress of this build myself. Maybe you should find the biggest Aluminum radiator you can find so that you can lessen the chance of corrosion.

Good luck,
Bryan D.

PS - what was the reason you used aluminum instead of copper?

Save your notes. If it works well, you might want to sell a few in the classifieds.

I have a BS flag up on this one. Nothing in this post even comes remotely close to fact. There's no tactful way to say that.

if you use enough antifreeze you can get around the galvanic corrosion, cars have been doing it for decades. you will pay a price in thermal absorbtion of the liquid though. Its a lot easier to just stay away from dissimilar metals if you can.

I've finished the top plate and it's been going for around a week now. I rushed it so as to have it going it's as rough as guts maybe I'm to ashamed to show it in public<GB>Temps dropped by around 11c in this summer heat at full load very happy. Idle temps only dropped by 1c or 2.
