Sinking the heat

hey there, some of you may have seen my thread on sound cards, but I now have a question about cpu heatsinks. I'm looking for a good heatsink, prefera bly of copper, for my 939 a64 3500+. I'm looking to do some overclocking and would like to get a good balance between sound and heat dispersion.

Hope you guys know of a good product, thanks

I'm a big fan of the ThermalRight heatsinks, myself. The XP-90C would be a nice choice, IMHO.

I also hear great things about the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro

I have a Zalman 120mm 7700 - very nice & quiet to boot.

Thermaltake is always nice, Zalman, you could always find a nice
Switftech combination.

I picked up a TT Typhoon (thx for the recommendation Cadaveca)
and I could let you know my results soon.

nice, zalman looks good but I think it would be a bit big inside my case, I like to keep it nice and spacious in there, would like to hear about that typhoon though
thanks

I've always used xalman or TT,http://www.frozencpu.com/cpu-tta-29.html
thats the blue orb, it will keep your CPU almost as cold as if you had a lowend WC.

I realize the last post was over a week ago, but I wanted to share my results on the Typhoon. I would really like to thank Cadaveca for recommending it though

At any rate, a quick comparison.

Idle after boot, my Zalamn 7700 @ full speed my 148 hover's around 29-31C.
Idle after boot, the Typhoon @ full speed my 148 sits near 23-25C

Load with the 7700 during 3Dmark 05 was around 41C
Load with the Typhoon is around 36C....

I"m extremely happy with this product, it IS massive however (had a little trouble mounting it in my Cheiftech case) but worth every penny.
I unfortunatly had to use the Thermal grease that came with the setup (ran out of AS5) however I'm confident my temperatures both idle and load will drop another 1-2C after I do a nice burn in with the AS.

Great product and gets a 10 in my book

Wow that sounds really amazing.
I've just replaced my motherboard, got an epox 9npa+sli board and have an Arctic cooling freezer 64 which seems to idle at around 35c. I think I messed up when installing it though, smearing the thermal grease and all, but I might put on some AS5 later.

Umm...btw what would cause my system to randomly lose power? I just hear like beeeeww...blooop like someone hit the off switch on the back of the PS and turned it back on real quick. Is my power supply wacky?
Thanks for your input!

It's definetly a PSU issue, what are you running?

hmm..It's some generic 420 watt that came with this aspire case. Probably not very good at all. I really don't like the look of this, when I shut down and come back later and turn on the computer, nothing comes up on screen, I have to hit the PSU switch off and try again, then it will come up. I suppose I need a good solid psu now, nothing too fancy, just solid and stable.

thanks for your help so far

this is not good, sometimes it shuts on and off several times resulting in a lock up of course. hopefully this will not harm my hardware in any way...perhaps I should start a new thread about a power supply? not sure exactly of the rules but since this is the cooling section...

umm hows this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937
or this

I don't really know PSU's

My preference is Zippy, PCP&P TT, OCZ, Antec and Rosewill (Rosewill simply for stability and not overclocking)

Are you looking for dual 12v rails? If not, your better off aiming for one massive 12v rail with 25+ amps (more can never hurt) However the PSU's you linked are quite nice and should do the job....its always best to shop around though

Isn't Rosewill simply rebranded Aopen stuff? I wouldn't put any of thier parts in my PC no matter how cheap.

I had to cheaply replace a supply in my 2200+ rig. That was two years ago with a 500watt Rosewill. I dont overclock, and its been quite stable so far.
Say what you will, I'll admit its not a great PSU, however that machine has been running without a hitch the day I replace the Foxconn unit.
