Celeron D 2.4Ghz running too hot.

Hey guys, just wondering if you could give me some tips on how to keep the temps down on my current CPU. At stock it runs at about 60c at 100% load, stopping F@H brings it to about 50c. Think i need to reseat my CPU and clean out the fans?

What sort of cooling do you have on that thing? what about case fans?

IIRC the Celeron D is based upon a cut-down Prescott core, meaning that those temps should be OK for it, even if they are a little high for stock.

Yup. Prescott core. Temps are fine, for a Prescott that is..

Those Prescott based Celerons actually take higher temps than the Prescott P4s happily, as they don't have as much temperature sensitive cache onchip.

So that you know, in Brisbane, Australia, my Athlon 64 runs at 60C load, 55C offload on very good air cooling. A prescott running 70C+ here is not in any way uncommon, and 80+ is still possible.

That's good to know i was worried that my temperatures were abnormal. I have no case fans at present but i have a few 80mm fans lying around if that might help a little.

60c isn't out of spec, but still high... Remember, for overclocking purposes, cooler is better. My prescott goes to 60c without a problem. At about 65c or so, I get issues. That's not a whole lot of wiggle room.

Well i installed a 120mm fan to blow air into the case and a couple of 80mm fans to extract the hot air. The temps are now 45c on 100% load and around 36c idle.

for a few bucks you could put a 120mm or 80mm exhaust surported by an side intake and or a topcase exhaust
