Water Cooling

Planning to change air cooling with water to be ready for next upgrade, but I have cero experience with water cooling. Found a novice level (Iguess) wcs that I'm willing to try.

1- Would it worth changing my Freezer 64Pro with this.http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=LC478K8&cat=FAN

2- Where would I install the radiator?

3- Any one know another entry level wcs that worth a try? (not to expensive, please)

4- Next cpu will be an Opteronx2 170 (hopefully) or a Athlon 64x2 4400 (skt 939).

I don't think a cheap kit like that will give you any advantage over your freezer and just look at the noise level:

35 db noise

I think you'll need to spend more than that for a decent kit. Also All in one pre-made kits tend to not be very good.

Without info to the contrary I'd be wary of it. See if you can find someone whose tried it.

If your going the kit route, you are going to have to spend more to get an advantage. You could do the do-it-yourself approch and buy what you need seperatly. Ebay is a great source.

Honestly, I'd stay with the Freezer 64. Unless you really want to invest in a high quality parts, and set up the loop right, then you are most likely better off with air cooling. I mean, you can always move to a cooler climate.

Pretty soon, the ambient temp of my computer room is going to be in the range of 40-50 F. Does wonders for overclocking, but then summer rolls around and it's 80-90 F. I have to undo all of my overclocking in the summer, and it makes me angry. When I'm angry I *WELCOME DANCE!!!!*

not sure what sort of budget you're working to but have a look at the asetek waterchill kits. I seem to remember a couple of guys on here using them a while ago, seemed pretty decent and not too expensive

Save and buy the right kit or components. You will be pleased with the results. WC can cool better if it is done right and it has a certain wow factor....

Built a lot of them myself and had two Swiftech boxes, nothing so far even touches Koolance for efficiency, quite and portability (External Exos). You can get them re-furbed, I did!

Still pricey. But my first one is 2 years old now and very quite. ...but they do cost! So look at their Clarence section as well as re-furb....and as mentioned, save your pennies. ":O}

I'm using a thermaltake big water 745, its quite different from the standard big water in that its got an uprated pump (over 4x the flow rate) and has a second rad which is a dual 120mm jobby.

The specs are 400l/hr pump (dont know what head pressure that is at) 1 x 120mm rad (made for internal hookup) with 120mm variable speed fan, an extra 2 x 120mm rad with a pair of fixed lowish speed (quiet) 120mm fans.

In terms off cooling power the rads are slightly overkill my water is nearly allways cold to touch (when i take res cap off) and since my 2nd rad now sits on my windowledge my water block is cold to touch.

As you can see from my sig its cooling an e6700 running at 3.73GHz at 1.625v, according to the asus probe it keeps my cpu now at a cool 44C fully loaded. Hpwever the intel tat app says more like 54-55C. Not bad for a cpu thats now kicks out around 135w.

I cant wait for winter, im gonna put slightly longer pipes out to the external rad and feed it air from outside which atm is peak of 17c during the day (average is 12-14c daily tho!) so when this mild snap is over my cpu temps are gonna plummit.

Link to my cooler, http://www.thermaltake.com/product/L...6/cl-w0076.asp

oh forgot to mention it cost me about £75, in comparison a Zalman 9500 air cooler is about £35 so its quite cheap for water (most water is £200+)
