O.o Massive cooling

Hey all its been a long time since I've posted anything useful. In the event I ever come up with a decent job soon, I'll be making a new badass rig for future games and for fun. While searching for things I came across this:

discuss! What would you do, what could we do to put this thing to use???

Nice! You could have the fans spinning at a low RPM, for minimal noise.

The thing is almost 16" across; rather than using 9 120mm fans, I'd just find a 16" window fan or something, and duct and use that.

Dual CPUs, quad GPU's, as watercooled as possible, including hard drives, chipsets everything, passive....

thats the best I can come up with outside of the realm of using TECs

I saw this a little bit ago. I wish they made one that was 1x6 or 1x9.

This would work great for a HTPC and look like a high tech speaker.

Why does everyone run standard axial fans on what appears to be a relatively restricted airflow path? I know that radial fans tend to being a bit noiser, but the higher pressure would surely be more benefitial?

I have tried a nice cage fan and it does nice. Even on slow. Problem is it is stinking huge. I have another item I will post a pic of when I get home. Big rad with a radial fan that blows air across the entire surface.

I realize that every little bit helps, but doesn't spacing a normal fan away from the radiator basically make up for the dead spot anyway?

Áedán is talking about air pressure. A axial fan does not have a lot of pressure even at high speeds. Radial fans do. Even at low speeds. It allows the air to make it through the fins of the radiator.

The one I have is not that noisy, just big. It would work great in a separate cooling box.

Generally speaking, radial fans tend to be harder and more expensive to find, I believe. Leastways, I know I've got a junk box FULL of axials, and pretty much all the computer places I hit on the web have got axials.

Yeah, a radial fan is basically an impeller, which is very good at building pressure.

An axial fan is the typical case fan that we are used to. The air flows straight through, 'on axis', and the fan motor is in the air stream behind the central hub. A radial fan, also commonly referred to as a 'squirrel-cage fan' or 'centrifugal blower' blows air out the side, at a 90-degree angle to the incoming air-flow, and the fan motor is NOT directly in the air-stream.
