Volcano 7+ issue

Okay, I'm about to install my brandy-new ThermalTake Volcano 7+ , but I have a possible "technical" issue...

I'm looking at the unit, and from what I see, the fan that attaches to the heatsink will be pushing air down onto the heatsink. Is this the correct way, or did my unit come with the fan installed upside down?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I believe thats OK........

SOme heatsinks are design to have fans that push air down onto the heatsink and some the opposite.

Example:

The Swiftech MCX462 was designed to have a fan push air down on it. FAN BLOWING AIR AT THE HEATSINK

While the ALPHA PAL was designed to have a fan push air up from it. FAN SUCKING AIR AWAY FROM THE HEATSINK

If the fan that came with the heatsink was installed to push air down, most probably Thermaltake designed it to be that way.

Cool....just thought it was weird. One would assume that you would want air coming off...not blowing on...
Guess I'll do the deed tonight and see what happens...worse case...I'll flip it

Thanks to you both for your quick responses.

It's in...and working beautifully....

Before installation, the CPU hung at 112F under a full load.

After the installation, I get 87F at High, 89F at Medium & 93F on low (all temps under full load).

It's a beautiful thing

Again, thanks for the help.

Cool

I have a Volcano 7 (reg). It used the heat sensing fan, but since that fan avgeraged 2200RPM, I changed it out for the same model of fan, with out sensor. My fan's blow down on to my heatsync, and I have a duct to pull fresh air in to the heatsync fan.

By the way, what fan are you running and how hot is your CPU running?

I spoke with a bunch of my friends and they had said that it was great.......of course not one of them had it.

I also looked at a lot of reviews from different oc sites.

What I came up with was that ThermalTake was a top-notch manufacturer that produced high-quality products and had excellent support.

Hope this helps.

I'm running with the fan that came with it (70x70x25 mm; 6000 rpm high, 4800 rpm medium & 3000 rpm on low).

After the installation, I get 87F at High, 89F at Medium & 93F on low (all temps under full load).

Hope this helps.

Both yes and no. Yes, I'm sure the 7+ is a VERY good unit, but ThermalTake has also made some not-so-top-notch-performers, most of us remember the good old Golden Orbs... Not much better than stock, but they LOOKED nice! To be fair their pricing was right, which made so many jump the band wagon. Myself included... Not to mention the blue orbs for GFX cooling, not much of a succes either.

As for their support I have no idea.

Glad you like your unit though!!

Holy crap. I have the Volcano 7 (reg) with a 80mm fan running at about 3200RPM's on it, and the temp, under near-idle (Surfing the Web) is about 110F. It's normally a little less when I play games (Heh, get this!) because I turn on my case fans. Still, your V7+ is GREAT! Damn. Wish it was out when I bought my V7.

Also, are you OC'd?

Yup. He's right. It almost always goes DOWN. There are some that blow up, but most blow DOWN.

Also, if I was to get a V7+, could I get a quiter 70mm fan? Are there such things?
