RTV silicone seal?
Has anyone tried using RTV silicone on the threads of their water cooling fittings?

I am concerned about leaks (obviously) and I don't really trust the o-rings the come on the fittings.

The other thing I was thinking about was maybe plumbers compound?

RTV should work just fine on the fittings, as long as you don't have any isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol in the water. (The alcohol will cause the RTV to release.)

Plumber's compound should work just fine as well, IMO.

What is in the common coolant used in water systems such as Feser One?

Is it glycol? Would glycol release the RTV?

I don't know with certainty, but it is my understanding that yes, most of them use some glycol compound as an algicide. That shouldn't interact with either RTV or plumber's compound, AFAIK.

Coolants won't do any harm to RTV. My preference is teflon tape on pipe fittings. Lifetime seal, doesn't make a mess and will release fairly easily when it comes time to take the joint apart.
