Dust Screens

Cleaning my giant zalman heatsink is a pita.
Would be nice to put fan screens on all the intake fans.

Anyone have any ideas for some fan screens?
I was thinking of stealing some pantyhose

oh i have this case. this one isnt mine but mine is the same. Intake fans: 2x 80mm under the front grill and 1x 80mm on the side

I went to Lowe's and bought some register filters (they fit inside the air vents for your central air unit) and a nylon window air conditioner filter.

Cut both filters to the size you need for the fan grills. Use the nylon filter to filter out the coarse stuff in front, and then the register filter to catch the finer stuff.

The nylon filter is pretty thin (about 1/32", call it about 0.8 mm) and fairly coarse woven (you can see right through it). The register filter is is thicker (about 1/8", call it about 5 mm), and is rather like foam. Cleanup is easy, just hit it with a vacuum periodically.

Works pretty good for me. The coarse filter catches all the dog and cat hair that's floating around, the fine filter catches most of the dust. What's left is usually fine enough that it flows right on through the system without ever stopping.

Be aware, though, that it WILL affect your airflow (as all air filters do).

I've been using "Used" Non woven Dryer sheets, you can go to a laundromat and get them out of the trash, they work great as dust filters... may be worth a try for ya. ":O}

I tried the dryer sheets myself Daniel, but with the amount of dust and animal dander that we have floating around here, they just couldn't hold up.

As I get them free, as soon as they load up with dust etc, I change them out!

Some kind of hydrostatic active doohicky that grabs the dust then sends it to Mars would be great.
