Question What's best for Monitoring temp?

It's the new guy again.

I have a question. I have an Iwill KK266+R mobo and T-Bird 1.4Ghz. The way I understand it the Athalon does not havs a built in Temp sensor the way the the the Intel chips do. So, that said, what's the best way to monitor the CPU temp?

The CPU, socket, waterblock, hoses ect... will be insulated against condensation. Anyone know what I can use? It doesn't seen like a good idea to put a sensor between the TEC and the CPU core. Please help.

You can get thermocouple probes from various electronics places (Maplin, Radio Shack) that are about ~0.5mm diameter. This is easily fine enough to locate next to your CPU core, while still seating the TEC on top of the die as usual. If you need a shim, the mod to fit the thermocouple in can be done with a hacksaw

You'll need something to read the thermocouple - most mobo headers are designed to take a thermistor, so won't work. I use a seperate handheld brick which I just connect at will (can still read temperatures while playing games then) although there are cards (DigiDoc?) that'll let the computer read it.

Thanks for the info

Sounds like a plan, I'm gonna have to see what's out there as far as readers go. Thanks.

pony35th, Here is a simple to install and fairly accurate thermal probe. I use one on my video card and one on the cpu.

Glad to be of assistance.
When you go to use the probe on the CPU, carefully peel back some of the black probe casing, so the casing doesn't interfere with your HSF seating. You will see what I mean when you receive the probes. Good Luck.
