Well I don't know about sueing. (you like me must live in CA were everyone is sue happy)

I think it would be reasonable to get a new one. I'd also check out the video card. You will probably be able to get them to replace that too if it's damaged.

But I'm SURE there going to ask for the damaged parts.

Um what the hell was it held togeather with? Im guessing copper-aluminium soldering is very tricky so perhaps its some form of adhesive?

Looks like they used some sort of glue, soldering alluminium is expensive and difficult.

Thats damned poor quality although you wont get them to pay any damages but you should definately get a refund (do you realy want another ?)

ITs a good job that was on your P4 system and at stock speed, had it been overclocked or even worse AMD you might have had some real damage caused.

They use an adhesive with micronized silver as a filler. I think that in all likely hood the adhesive is not formulated to allow for the differences in expansion rate between the two metals. I'd just lap the two sufaces, apply AS3, and use four counter-sunk tappered-head machine screws to hold the baseplate on were I you.

Now that IS a good idea!

Anyone think of this? a solid copper AX7? How hard would that be to make do you think?

hmm, this does seem a really ghetto method of holding the fins on.... If its happened once it will happen again becuase it does seem like a terrible design flaw - If i was in the market for a P4 sink i'd stay well clear of this one, until they onculde some sort of mechanical bond, like the countersunk screws mentioned earlier, that sounds a good idea!
