vid card temp.

does anyone know what the temperature thresh hold of an e-GeForce FX 5900 SE is?

sasrob 8th December, 2004 09:24 PM

not to sure of the fx5900 but my fx5950ultra runs around 55c when playing games

WonderBread 8th December, 2004 11:14 PM

i have mine OC'd to 410core 750mem I would go more but after about an hour it gets up to 60c and that kinda scares me. should i go with a new VGA cooler like the Thermaltake Giant III or the NV Silencer 3 (5900XT model)?

danrok 8th December, 2004 11:19 PM

60c is fine - assuming the sensor is accurate.

WonderBread 8th December, 2004 11:44 PM

i have my case temp probe shoved in between the Core and the Heat sink. should be fairly accurate. i think

you mean literally between the core and heatsink?

if so, you shouldnt do that, the heat sensor blocks heat from being passed to the heatsink. if you remove it and place it alongside the core, your temps will naturally be lower because the sensor is farther away from the heatsource, but the actual core temp of the card will drop by about 5C if not more because the sensor is not there anymore to block the heat transfer.

NO!!! of course not!!. im not that stupid!! its right next to it

WonderBread 9th December, 2004 02:24 AM

so, what vga cooler would b better the NV Silencer3 or the Themaltake Giant III?

sasrob 9th December, 2004 12:40 PM

go for the nvsilencer3 mate i tryed the themaltake it's crap i did try and get nv5 (fx5950) but most places is out of stock for this card.as for my 6800gt card i am more and happy with the temp of that around 58c is the highest i'v seen so far

WonderBread 9th December, 2004 02:23 PM

do you overclock the card?

sasrob 9th December, 2004 04:34 PM

no not really why overclock a top card like the 6800gt. i have got my 3200xp running at 2.5gig it runs around 50c!!!!!!!

Pitch 9th December, 2004 11:02 PM

An unoverclocked 6800GT is like a Ferarri with a speed limiter.

.........Must...........over...................... ...........clock......

WonderBread 10th December, 2004 12:33 AM

YAY i just ordered the NV Silencer 3 should b here my mon-tues. hopefully it will run cooler and more overclocking!!!! and i cant wait to get my new CPU and RAM!! :D :D

sasrob 10th December, 2004 11:34 AM

it's ok having a Ferarri going top speed but if it breaks down then it scrap!!!!!!!!!

WonderBread 18th December, 2004 04:41 AM

Just got my new NV Silencer 3 today, installed great and dropped the temps 20c!!! gotta love the AS5 to!

Samuknow 19th December, 2004 11:13 PM

I have my 5900 running @ 440/940 and it hits about 60 when gaming. I just mounted a quiet 80mm fan at the edge of the card "old School" and all is well.

WonderBread 19th December, 2004 11:17 PM

what drivers r u using? mine won't go past 475/868

Samuknow 20th December, 2004 03:16 AM

I am using the 61.77 now. I get a little faster with the 56 series but actually bench slower. The newer drivers give me artifacts. If you bring your Core down you might get a higher mem clock....plus I have my AGP volt set at 1.8 in my BIOS...

WonderBread 20th December, 2004 03:21 AM

wait, is ur card the 5900 or the 5900XT version?

Samuknow 20th December, 2004 04:59 AM

FX 5900, that is prob the diff. I had it flashed to a 5950U for a while but it was really buggy. It did run a lot cooler though. At least that is what the software said...
