what could this be?

OK this has happened three times since i reformatted my HD. some how half if my start menu items will just disappear, its the right side block and they disappear right under the "search" button, like my control panel button, my computer button and a coupla others, like my pictures, my documents help and support etc.. and these things are necessary to me and with out the hotbuttons i havent seen any other way to access my control panel. this is a new OS for me just got XP last month but this just started happening a week ago, and im wondering if i may be toggling some setting that makes these buttons disappear and not know it.

I post this on this forum because it may be a major OS error, but then again it might be something minor. I honestly cant think of adjusting any setting before it happens it just "poofs" on me. and the only way i have been able to get them back is use System Restore. if any of you far more experienced folks could help me understand what could be going on please share, thanks

G.

Welcome aboard, gdeman!

You have an interesting problem. Unlucky you! 98SE used to pull this one on me, but everything was gone from the Start button. Click Start, nothing happened. I had to wipe the HDD and reinstall the OS to fix this problem.

I hope a Win XP wizard will come to your aid!
