A7V and Power Button = CRASH..?!!

hey all. i gave my old pc (duron 600@1102, asus a7v) to my brother. he pressed the power button on the keyboard to see what it did, and it TRASHED the windows install! the computer hung and when i rebooted, it had corrupted the FAT and put all the data on the partition into one huuuuuge file. i had to do much scandisking and searching through .chk files to regain important documents on the hdd.

come to think of it, i had this problem before once as well. different kboard, and the sleep button. but it did the same thing.

any idea what this is? btw, acpi is disabled in bios and windows 98se, cos i hate it. it's wierd.

I had the exact same thing happen to one of my systems a couple years ago. Since then I have quit using any kind of power management. Seems it's still a "standard" that has not been implemented and/or adopted properly. I would just reinstall and leave all those features disabled. Tell your bro not to use the sleep feature or keyboard power on.

tc, i'd already disabled everything relating to acpi and power management that i possibly could. it's just really annoying/wierd, that they include those nasty buttons on so many keyboards! grrrrrr....
