Help Hard Drive Data Recovery

Hi
I got a drive with SMART drive failure. I am trying to recover my data off of this hard drive. I have tried PowerQuest Lost and Found utility but problem with that utility it tries to recover them all at once. This drive errors out after about 20 mins of being scanned. So need some kind of software that works in DOS mode to recover what i can from this hard drive. I can get into windows with this hard drive only in SAFE MODE. I can then see the files but cant copy or open them.
Boot sector and Fat Table are both intact. The drive has only been used for storage no OS installed.
The OS i am useing is windows 98se . Hard drive is FAT 32. Need some help fast.

thanks

Jen

Sounds like a job for Norton.

Norton Systemworks 2001 got files back off a drive that I had formatted.

2500+ MP3's to be exact.

I have been using File Scavenger. I think it was 40 bucks.

I have been able to recover most data even after a format. It will display files in the original directory structure so you can pick what you want to recover.

Help with this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I may have a very similar problem, but I don't know how to address it.

Bear in mind that ANY data recovery tool is only going to be able to work as long as the problem is on the MEDIA. If the hard drive failure is with the ELECTRONIC (spindle motor, read/write heads, data channels, etc) then the tool will be essentially useless.

That being said, there are a large number of tools out there. Unfortunately, I have no experience with them, so my only suggestion is to do some research, read reviews, etc.
