Honestly I really really think it's your HSF is mounted correctly. Do you know how to install a HSF?

I've heard that those coolers are sub par. Maybe get another type of HSF? Preferably one with a copper base.

chances are they gave you a crappy copper heatsink-
pro install means NOTHING-
Buy a SLK 600 ot 700, get some artic silver and a 40cfm 80mm fan-
Your computer will stop freezing- trust me- robs right-

Well, right now my comp has the HS/F that i mentioned earlier + an 90mm Fan + a blue orb(minus the heatsync) acting as an exhaust fan.

If ur really reccomending i get a new fan check out THIS site its the only computer retailer in my area that sells parts.

EDIT: i thought Athlons can take up to 70C b4 they Throttle/shutdown

AMD's DON'T throttle P4's do. Trust me 50 is WAY too hot for that chip.

ok... so check out that site i posted (www.etailer.ca) and tell me what fan i should get. They are one of 3 stores in town. 1 store, Aztec Computers is insanely expensive. the 2nd store, Ashteq is expensive and i refuse to do any business with them because they built my ****ty comp and refuse to fully honour my warranty. so that just leaves me with etailer.ca

IF theres nothing good enough there i could make the hike to Toronto and goto CanadaComputers

EDIT: actually i figure if im buying a new proc fan i might as well mount that 80mm of mine on the case adjacent to the PCI slots and buy some rounded IDE cables to increase airflow becuase theres next to no open spaces in my comp. ACTUALLY now that i think about it. It might not be the proc fan...the proc fan is about 1.5" away from the PSU. if i make a hole(in the case) above where the proc is and install that 80mm there blowing air IN it might get rid of the stagnant hot air in that area.

BTW, how can i make a hole in my case w/o using a dremel. My dad has 50 million powertools downstairs but no dremel. any suggestions ?

thx

I just got back from Canada so I'm a little tired. Sorry I didn't answer you sooner but I didn't have access to a PC (it was weird but kinda nice)

I'll try and put some effort into this for you tomorrow.

OK?

53?? do you fold or are you running anything in the back ground?

This is WAY too hot for this chip. I"m not saying it's going to die I'm just saying that it's way too hot. Even for an inaccurate reading it seems way too high. But I could be wrong.

Ok, let's see if I can "walk" ya threw a install of your hsf.

Ok here is the "link" to someone else that I helped out with installing there HSF properly.

The link

Let me know if that helps ya. If not I'll have to try something else!!

Caesalt, Whatever heatsink you use and whatever thermal grease you use try these instructions:
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm
Be carefull when removing the retention clip, DON'T use a screwdriver, it might slip off and damage your motherboard. Try using a nutdriver, an insert tip screwdriver with the tip removed, or even a 1/4" socket with an extension . Remove the psu if you have to , to get enough room to manuever in the case. It really sounds like you don't have the heatsink on there correctly.
