Help !!!

My computer started this when I had to reload win 98 on it. If anyone knows whats up PLEASE help me.

I noticed my cpu wasn't cooling down very far when it sat Idle for a while so I figured there was something running in the back ground. Load wintop. Wintop says my system is 99.* idle but when I run cpuid it shows my chip is running at +/- 45%.
Ok so now I'm confused.....now lets throw this in for good measure. When I roll the mouse in circles on the mouse pad cpuid says the cpu drops to 2% usage, and the temps start to drop.

Please give me something to look for or work with, I'm at a loss.

1.4 T-Bird, Abit KT7A, 512 ram, watercooled, Win98 se, what else do you need to know?

run msconfig from the run box in the start menu and go into the startup tab and see what is being loaded at the boot. if its loading a bot or something it will prolly tell you there

Thanks for the try but I already did that. It's one of the first things I do when I finish loading everything.

I'm begining to think it's the mo/board.

Well here's the new development.

I pulled it all apart and found something I have always worried about. It appears I had a small water leak at the block. The water had run down and pooled on my sound card right where the pins are. When I pulled the card it had green crud and the PCI socket appeared to have burnt a little.

I cleaned it all up and put it all back together and she boots and runs fine but it still shows CPU as 45% usage when I know it is "idle". It still drops to around 2% when I roll the mouse.

I'm going to use this box for folding anyway so it will be cranking at 100% 24/7. I just hate that I didn't see the leak before the damage was done.

I'm still open to suggestions if anyone has any....

That is why I won't try watercooling in my systems. Its not worth the risk when one drop of water could destroy the whole rig. Your lucky it was only a sound card.
Out of curiousity, why do you still use Windows 98SE?
