Angry Registry Corrupting

Hello:
In the past few day my computer has been very flakey. If I turn it off and do a cold boot, it will take two or three resets to finally boot to WindowsXP. Sometimes from a cold boot it tells me that the Registry is corrupted and the backup cannot be found/used. Right now it is sitting with a black screen saying that: Windows could not load because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
Also I get alot of random freezes which the BSOD usally points to ATI2DVAG.DLL which is the driver for my ATI AIW 7500 Radeon.

Help if you can!

My system: AMD Athlon T-Bird 1GHz not overclocked
EPoX 8k7g motherboard
2x 256MB Crucial RAM
ATI All In Wonder 7500 Radeon
Maxtor 120 GB Harddrive divided into 10 gig and 110 gig partitions
Hi-Val CD burner
NEC ND-1100 DVD Burner
Linksys NIC
Creative Soundblaster Audigy Platinum

Welcome to AOA Forums, jstrick1!

It may be a Memory or heat related problem, or many other things, just to keep it simple. Not. By any chance, are you seeing higher temperatures(outside) now than earlier this summer?

Is your machine overclocked? If so, slowing it down to "stock" might help. If it's not OC'd, perhaps wiping your C:\ volume and reinstalling XP from scratch may help. If the inside of the box has dust bunnies that greet each other by name, cleaning it can make for a ~2C decrease in temperature.
