New Grfx card + windows

Hello,

I just purchased a new GeForce FX5900XT and a 500W powersupply. (could'nt get a 400...)

When I started the PC I ran VGA mode as I dont have my 19" monitor with me but windows started crashing. looks like a HD faliure but could it be related to the graphics card? I'm running a chkdsk at the moment, tried resetting BIOS and unplugging all unnessesary devices in case the powersupply is causing a problem. I have a Epox 8k5a2 MB.

Please help!
Michael

Does the card have an external power conector? If so try to make sure that the HDD and graphis card are not on the same power cable.

Hello,

I've tried that, doesn't help. I also put the old Graphics card back and got the same problems. I used a diverrent harddisk with windows installed on it last night but I'm getting the same problems. I'm taking the MB back to the shop today maybe they can help me. unfortunately the warranty has expired...

Thanks for the advice.
Michael

If you just changed the PSU and video card and it started messing up and it still messes up with the old video card, you may want to take a closer look at that PSU.

Hello,

Thanks for all the advice. I took the PC to the 2 distributers I bought it from yesterday and it turns out the Motherboard is busted. I had the Powersupply, Memory and Graphics card tested and everything is 100%.
The HD errors I was receiving was also due to the Motherboard. Wish the Epox had a bit more than 1 year guarantee...

I bought the 8K9a7I board as a replacement and everything is working fine now.

Cheers
Michael
