Unhappy need help immediately---computer acting up

Well i cannot seem to get past the windows boot up screen, computer keeps crashing....i think it might be my harddrive. whenever it crashes...it give me the blue screen of death and asking me to run "CHKDSK"....can i do that from the bios...if so......please do tell.

PS. i've already checked out and eliminated all the other computer parts, so i know they r all good.

Have you tried starting in safe mode?

yes but still can't get past windows boot up screen....is there a way to check my harddrive for errors...without going to the operating system first.

Western Digital has a utility that will check your drive. Try downloading it and give it a spin. (sorry I would post a link but I'm on slow dial-up right now)

Let us know how it worked of if it reported errors. If it errors out I hope you can still RMA the sucker.

well there were no errors....but i was able to erase the drive with the WD utility.
thanks robbie, i had actually thought the drive had gone bad.
PS. it's up and running great now.
