System Shutdown!

I hope someone has a soution, because this is driving me mad.

It happend for the first time after I "safely removed" my mp3 player from my USB, don't know if that's the reason though.

I turn on the computer, after about 5-7 minutes i get this: (sometimes this first message is skipped)

First message: (sortoff like this)
----------------------------
LSA Shell (Export Version)
lsass.exe
appcompat.txt
----------------------------

After about 2 more minutes:
------------------------------------------------------
SYSTEM SHUTDOWN
This system is shutting down.
Please save all work in progress and log off.
Any unsaved changes will be lost.

This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY SYSTEM

The system process C:windows/system32/lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819
This system will now be shut down and restarted.
------------------------------------------------------

This does not occur (at least not to my knowledge,
this is a pretty new problem for me) when i unplug my internet connection.

I'm desperate... thank you all in advance.

sounds like a virus to me sasser often causes random shutdowns like that....have u tried monitering your firewall and your task manager (processes) while this is happening?

It sounds like your machine is suffering from a virus known as W32.Korgo. This virus attacks systems with a vulnerable LSASS (Windows Security Subsystem). There is a patch to fix the vulnerability, but you do not say if you're running XP or 2000.

If you're running XP, then right click on "My Network Places" and select Properties. Then right click on your network adapter, and select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and enable the Internet Connection Firewall. That will get you enough protection to visit Microsoft's Windows Update site, as well as visiting something like Trend Micro's Housecall

If you're on Windows 2000, then you definately need some kind of third party firewall!

Sorry to butt in, but I was wondering Aidan, how good a job does the XP firewall do?

My own thought was:
Given that Bill's OS is the target of choice for hackers everywhere. Even were it to be good... they are out there trying....

XP's firewall provides enough protection to stop things coming in of their own accord. It won't stop programs connecting out, and it won't stop something like a trojan coming via email/website. It's pretty basic, but it should be enough to stop this particular issue.

i can help u with this to stop the computer shuting down u have disconnect from the internet ok

now to stop the shut down cycle go to /start/run/cmd/ then click ok

now we r going to create a log file ok

start/run/cmd/ click ok.. now i don't now if u r timed to do it in but i had 1 min untill it restarted the pc
if u type this in the command prompt:
echo dcpromo >%systemroot%/debug/dcpromo.log then enter i think this will stop the computer shutting down but still follow the other instructions

u must make this a file read only. type this in command prompt:
attrib +r %systemroot%/debug/dcpromo.log

now go to task manager (ctrl+alt+delete)
now click processes tab now u need to END ALL PROCESS ending in .exe but DON'T END thIS ONE (wmiprvse.exe)

once u have done that u need to go enable firewall like aedan said ok

then reconnect to net and auto update then u'r pc should be fine make sure u get the update ok!!!!!!!!! THIS IS ONLY FOR WINDOWS XP BY THE WAY !!!!!!
