Fresh Install of XP.. Long delays on splash and double clicks?

Hi guys

I formatted my machine using an XP Upgrade CD, followed it through, deleted partitons, created partition, format, inserted Win98 CD and then finished the XP setup with no problems. It came to reboot after installation, and the xp splash screen took 5 or so minutes before loading desktop. I presumed this was just as it was a new install so getting all the drivers etc.

The problem is, this happens on every boot now. It also takes literally 2-3 minutes for the start menu to come up after clicking, or for any program to load after a double click.

Any ideas what can be causing the problem?

Is the machine overclocked?

If the system is slightly unstable it can take a while to load windows.

If you are sure that all hardware is stable I would suggest doing the install again.

No, the machine isn't overclocked. I am pretty sure the hardware is all fine, I'll try another install if really necessary.. no other ideas?

It's probably driver problems. My guess is that you're WinXP install is searching for hardware that doesn't exist or is not responding the way it should.

Yes, drivers are installed. It seems fine when I finally get connected to internet, but as soon as I disconnect the delays continue.

Do you have a firewall? And is it configured to allow access for Generic Host Process for Win32? There's obviously something happening with a program that is trying to access the internet. You may have to go down the processes list one at a time to figure out which one it is.
