It that time of the month again...

..That time when I begin massacring expensive computer components.

Becuase the card was destined for a second rig, I have to replace it. Most probably get a 6800GT, however this failure has cost me more cash and thus I have to sacrifice a FX-55 for a 4000+.

It WOULD happen to me wouldn't it.

I guess old habbits dies hard.

Not another one! You have the worst luck with hardware. Get another scratch card!

Might have to turn to gambling again.

Not fair.

I have a ATI 7000 32 MB as a backup though. :Rolling:

Save yourself some cash by going for a 6600GT. The current sweet-spot of gfx card price to performance.
Also if you must have the mostest, get 2 & SLi them; 2 6600GTs can be had for the price of one 6800GT (or less!... if I am not mistaken) for superlative processing power on a PCIe mobo.

I couldn't believe I wasn't reading an old thread! Pitch! We have so had this conversation! Dude get a wrist strap! Probably worthless in itself, but the gods see your terrified and willing to submit even to the laws of physics if you have to!

Now for the good part, get yourself a rubber chicken, one that would make Einstein look stupid if he were holding it,... hey, with the gods, it's all about humiliation!

Now you have to make up some really embarrassing stupid stuff and pretend to believe it in front of your parents and friends... if you didn't blush, it wasn't stupid enough!

I gotta say, that and the wrist strap might just turn things around for ya... or your just a total loser...in which case were going to need two chickens, only one of them rubber...

The most frightening thing is that I havn't had the system apart for a while.

As for this whole CPU dilema, I tearfully returned my FX55 for a refund and need to what to swap it for.

It's either a 3500 Winchester or a 4000 Clawhammer.

I know the Winchesters overclock well and should do well at -30*C.

But will I be able to take the 4000 to speeds outter reach of the 3500?

Man I'm confused. I know a 3500 would cost half as much but I really need some suggestions. I am working on about a £600 budget here so all suggestiosn are welcome.

It's always a crap shoot. the 3500+ winchester would be the best bet in my opinion. The 4000+ is a clawhammer, and they can be quite diffuicult to clock right, but becasue it's the highest rating right now, it may go real far, it may go not far at all. It was this same kind of dilema that i went through when i got my 3400+....do i get the 3400+, or the 3700+. Well, either way the are 2.4ghz, one with more mem, but that only really helps if you want to address larger amts of memory. There is a smlal performance difference, no doubt, but we both know that overclocking could make up any differences. I'd be safe, go with the 3500+, and take the saved money and buy something else, or some ram that will go to 280, and then run a 10x280 set-up. You could also technically get a 3200+ to do the same thing, but i would feel safer myself going with the higher rated chip just to be sure the performance was there.

Those of you with good memories will notice that the 4000+ features the full 1mb cache that was featured on the FX-53, because its also clocked at 2400mhz it’s the same speed as the FX-53 was…essentially what your looking at is a renamed FX-53 with locked multipliers. Other than the clockspeed the 4000+ has one difference from the FX-55, it runs on a slightly lower voltage (1.573v to 1.515v).

I have 2 questions and a statement.
Q1. What is phase change cooling?
Q2. How the hell did you manage to kill 2 X850XT PE cards? They are like $950 cards.
S1. I dont use a wrist-strap and ive never kiled anything. The only thing i've come close to killing is a 1.19gig hard-drive, stupid auto BIOS settings wont work, even though im sure the drive works.

Phase Change, aka Extreme cooling with refrigerants in units like Vapochill and nVentiv Machs, to temps well below zeroC

I too would like to know the answer to Q2!
