you may find this article good. This recovered all of it. Apart from I couldn't access it in dos for some reason so I booted off a 1 gig in roder to access the network, copy it across and re format.

Is not a bad solution, but I also liked what I came up with

Since I don't have that much spare storage! to copy it to.

The unformat command recreates the data on the disk, and a month on I have not had a single problem...

As for the cause of my problem.

I forgot to turn my pump on. My chip got hot enough that the motherboard was beeping away, I think it might have managed around 60-70 Deg C (Not crashed mind you) I shut down, found the pump was off, swore a lot and turned it on and allowed it to cool back down to 20 odd Deg C, but when I booted up the highpoint controller (Builtin) reported a broken stripe.....

DO NOT LET THE HIGHPOINT CONTROLLER GET HOT!

Was my lesson of the day

And set the bios to auto-shutdown if it gets even a little bit warm. My chip temps are at like 35 at load so I had it auto-shutdown asap... I don't care if I lose a little data, better than the chance of losing it all.

Zorro.

Why not try a chipset cooler on the highpoint Raid controller on the mobo? perhaps a 486HSF?

I know in this time of 100gig. HD and affordable raids that we forget about the old stuff. Can you say Tape Back-up. I keep two back-ups of all my data. 1 on a second Raid and 1 on Tape.
I screw things up alot.

well. I got hold of an 8gb tape backup drive. But I haven't set it up yet :S

i intend to set that up to backup the REALLY essential stuff over the entire network every night.

Then I'll propbably get hold of a DVD-R
