Unhappy ATI and control panel

Every time i start my PC, ATI.exe has failed to run owing to a memory error.
You know...the failed to initialise emory at 0998594jtj54x9038490325u4 etc
(those were random values not actually what the error says)

this happened for the 5.7 and 5.8 drivers, the card works fine but i dont like the fact that im getting memory errors.

could it be my RAM? i have two 512 sticks by different manufacturers.. could they b clashing?

sorry if i didnt use the search button more thoroughly

thanks for any help

do you have the regular control panel install od the CCC version? if it's the CCC, you need to install .net framework SP1.1

Try reverting back to the drivers issued on your Driver CD. It's a vague answer, but the drivers on your Cd are bound to work properly thus most likely taking away the possibiltiy it's a driver issue.

i did have the control panel on the 5.6 drivers... but then i installed the 5.7 drivers and ati.exe stopped working.

i do have the .net framework cos i have sp2 and i check for updates regularly
(i say i do it but i a lazy arse and make it automatic )

i'll try and uninstall everything driver related to the card, and then i'll reinstall the drivers, cos my card is only a 9600xt, could anyone recommend which drivers i should pick. i do play BF2 and HL2. some peeps said that the 5.7 are better for lower end cards

just use the most up-to-date if playing new games, adn these drivers will be set for the new games while older are not.

in regards to the 5.6-5.7-5.8 catalyst driver, they are all teh same driver, with additional functionality and game fixes rolled in. the release was planned and annouced back in march about these drivers, so the 5.7 and the 5.8 performance should not differ very much, other than the aforementioned game fixes. The reason for the focus on 5.7 rather than 5.8 is becaseu 5.7 is when the added support for the "hypermemory" cards was added, and since your card is not "hypermemory" based, you would not benefit from it anyway.

Is your 9600xt a Powercolor card?

Also besides the error that you "demonstrated", do you also get a "failed to initialize video card" - that is the exact error message, and if you get that, please post that you do so.

Arrow .Net Framework Optional

I believe that microsoft .net Framework would be under the custom install at the windows update site. Therefore even though you have your computer set to install updates automatically, that would only apply to critical updates and such. A good way to check if you have it is to go to control panel and open Administrative tools, if you see microsoft .net framework in there, you got it, if not,go to the update site and click custom install and in there you will find the download. You can also get windows media player 10 in there,as well. Hope that helps.

that CLi error is due to missing I/O driver included with .net framework.
