Did you have exactly the same problem sam? ie the system would run fine for a while then die? ...i dunno...seems the longer I run it the worse it gets but if I let it sit it's fine

Yes it did. When I first booted it was fine... After some intense app it would bsod or just crash to black. Sometimes it would reboot. After a bit It would be fine again...

Ok well I traded the old stick of RAM and bought the corsair twinx 5400 (1gb) which is actually 2x512mb sticks...

Will see how it goes..if this fixes it .. I will buy everyone a beer of course being overseas I will have to drink it on your behalf but the thought is there!

Well I'm more than happy to report that after almost 6 hours of intense computing my system is still standing..looks like the issue was the RAMs fault.

When I say computing, I mean prime95 on each CPU plus defrag/data transfers for 2 hours...then for the last 4 hours I've been transcoding divx

Thankyou one and all..the only thing I have to say is that I look forward to being a paying member of this forum and I can only hope to repay the kindness and knowledge I have been given to others.

Buy a battery backup/ups with AVR. Make sure you're getting clean power or invest in a higher quality psu
