There's two ways to look at this, I'm happy to leave the choice with R.1.

One,

we are hi jacking his thread...possibly delaying a fix to his problem....

Or ....My personal favorite!...

We are keep the thread alive while R.1 works though what he needs to at home for our presence to become useful to him again...

I mean, like, I'm not actually standing in any one's way by posting this... but as I said, as thread starter that's R.1's call. ":O}

RM, as a result of the hijacked thread, whats you're address, I'll cruise over and fix your problem

Or if you'd like me to take a look-see at your setup, I'd be glad to offer my service via LiveMeeting, NetMeeting, Remote Assistance, Radmin, or VNC.

One thing RussianMissile1, you still haven't gotten back to us on whether the windows event log is showing you any failures?

EDIT: Have you checked your group policy settings? Just in case you happened to have inadvertantly added yourself to a domain?

Start > Run > gpedit.msc..Go to Administrative Templates / Network / Network Connections / Windows Firewall. Under that setting there will be an option that says "Windows Firewall: Protect All Network Connections" Is that enabled/disabled or not configured?

which part of the event log?

it gives me "cannot find gpedit.msc" when i try to start it from "Run"

youll have to tell me how to get the remote stuff set up, because i have not done anything of that sort before

unless youre living in the same city as me, i cant ask you to come over here.

heh, so thats one difference between the two.
i have pro on my laptop and home on the tower im having these problems with, i havent noticed any difference between the two as of yet.

this is popping up in the viewer multiple times as failed with the same event # each time under the 'security' category. since firewall = security, i think this is the place to be looking:

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Policy Change
Event ID: 615
Date: 5/9/2006
Time: 11:25:46 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Computer: IVAN-MAIN
Description:
IPSec Services: IPSec Services failed to get the complete list of network interfaces on the machine. This can be a potential security hazard to the machine since some of the network interfaces may not get the protection as desired by the applied IPSec filters. Please run IPSec monitor snap-in to further diagnose the problem.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
