Device Manager says that there is a problem with this device.
This is after unisntalling the Ati Drivers. So how do I now clean up any remaining bits of driver, so I can re-install successfully?

Me and Pitch have had a chat.
Basically, when I isntaleld Media Centre, I didn't format. So all the old XP Professional crap is still been loitering around and caused these problems with all the drivers and suchlike andthe boot problems i have been having.
Althoguh using monkeymans advice fixed the boot problems, everything else is still screwed up. So I have got to completely full format again and re-install everything.
Thankfully, it sort of works allowing me to back up.

Thank you guys.

Sorry that you're having these painful problems. Can't blame MS because of the "dual OS" issue. Rats. Sounds like you are going to lose a lot of important data. Argh!

Yep. All of my music. All 3,000 tracks. Yes - about 2,00 tracks are off CDs. But still...

You could pull the HDD out and put it on a working computer as a slave and copy any files off and then do a repair.
The repair option is quick and painless and typically does not adversely affect user settings.
To exercise this option, start from the Windows CD as if you were going to do a clean install.
It’s easy to become confused during this process, because the word repair appears in two different
places when you start your computer using the Windows CD. At the Welcome To
Setup screen, do not choose the option to repair your installation using the Recovery Console.
Instead, press Enter, which starts the Windows Setup program. After you accept the
license agreement, Windows searches your system for existing Windows installations. When
you reach the screen that lists your current Windows installation, select it from the list and
press R to start the repair process. The remainder of this procedure requires the same steps as
if you were performing a clean installation; when Setup finishes, your system files should be
refreshed and your existing data and settings should be accessible again.
I really hope that helps. I know how you feel.

Lol, thanks dude, but if you read back you'll see I'd already tried that and it hadn't worked.

It won't work as a slave in another computer. I do this all the time when i have to reinstall for a customer. Pull drive and install into my rig. Copy all data to a safe drive in my machine. Format the drive from my machine and then reinstall in the customers machine and do the normal windows install.

Oh - I've rebooted. Did that yesterday.
And Samuknow, that really only works if you have more than one Pc or more than one Hard Drives. As this is my only PC - it isn't really a solution. But thanks anyway.

Thankfully I bought a DVD writer after the first time.

This is one big Ouch! Do you know of a computer you can borrow, might be worth the hassle to save your music...?

Have you tried a fresh install to a new location ie.,windows2, instead of windows? It will at least get you up to get your data to a cd or dvd....

I've sorted it. Hence I lost my music - because I lost it when doing my new install.

As Agent Smith would say, the inevitable happened.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8RPM
Born: July 2005
Died: 8:00am, Monday the 22nd of May 2006

And hence my new Hitachi Deskstar came. By golly it's quiet (Correction - Silent). It's also formatting TWICE the speed (estimate) of my barracuda.
Lets hope the HD wasn't the problem. My HDD died from the same problem as before. It technically sitll works, but as before, simply shuts off 20 seconds after booting. I tried a repair install etc and concluded that if the problem sitll arises after re-installing Windows - the problem must most likely be my HDD.

Well, new HDD, similar problems. I'm glad I replaced my HDD, I'm not a Seagate fan anyway. But it looks like this is a motherboard or a Power Supply problem. First, I'm going to replace my PSU. At least this way I will know the PSU is then not at fault and I will also then have a proper ATX2.0 PSU.
