Roger that, AP.

Just sent Scan an email with my address and stuff on it. Hopefully, the returns courier will be here tomorrow.

Also, they said the return could take 5-7 days. That's just BS, in my opinion. =(

look at the tester":O}

I'm not sure what we are looking at, I get the opposite impression, that the board was found to have a fault.

That's the email I found in my junk folder, sent by Scan yesterday.

I don't know what to do now. I was 99.9% certain that the motherboard was faulty, as were all of you.

What to do!?

You can take their word for it or go elsewhere next time you buy. Given the complexity of the gear and the infinite verity of things we plug into a motherboard... I'm inclined in such situations to take my lumps and assume good faith until I have real proof other wise....

Everything else just seems to lead to endless frustration doubt and recriminations.... **** happens, sorry it happened to you.

Thing is, my motherboard was fine on the initial boot up.

It was only after I installed Windows and then the motherboard drivers, powered off and then booted up again did the problems occur.

I'm sure Scan wouldn't have done all of this to test it, therefore they would be under the assumption that the motherboard was fine.

I'm pretty sure they test at a deeper level....but to be honest, I'm just assuming that...
Here's what they are up against.

Something like 95% of all boards returned are fine. This results in a tremendous cost increase to everyone from the consumer on up the chain.

Profit margins here are razor thin...many go under after years of success, one bad move is all it takes...

They aren't being mean, they are just trying to survive.

I was so tempted to return my cheapo Video card I filled out an RMA! Then tore it up. I did after all remove the heat sink, which I know violates warranty.... That didn't kill the card! It just killed my warranty...when the card died... Overclocking carries risk. The refusal of many to accept that risk personally drive prices up everywhere.

Not much of this applies directly to you, I'm just trying to help you keep it all in focus in an upsetting situation.

Best of luck next time around!

I requested Scan send me a full description of how they tested it and what kit they used to test it. Here is their reply;

Without going into great detail re the rest of the thread -

Have you tested the memory and cpu elsewhere and also the VGA card?

Would you consider using a branded PSU with a couple of real 12v rails in it?

Why are you overclocking and then complaining about stability - the only scenario you should complain in is when stock isn't acheiveable ?

Is the board reading the extended profiles in the corsair memory (or is it the stuff that the 590 can't detect?) - what timings are you using ?

You should trust the tester too - he has good breeding.

Remember that they probably see a few hundred mainboards every week and I have been in scenarios where people test boards like that - it becomes second nature, and instinctive, and is done with post cards and the like.

Hey Kid, your talking to the guy who did the testing....thought you'd like to know....":O}

You see he really is, The manufacturer really is on your side!
What good does a dissatisfied customer do them?

A very brief history!

We used to send boards back and they'd be replaced without question.... Then a lot more non-professional people came into overclocking (people like me!) grew impatient, and lacking the will and energy to to see it though, just began to assume that any problem with any of the things Andy C_ has mentioned, had to be the motherboard....this began to cost manufacturers big time!

So now they pay to have returned boards tested and charge the customer if it is without flaw.

As overclockers we play with "Some" of the variables, but we do not control them, only exploit them to a degree. In order to do so we have to gain control of every thing we can, Ram, HD, Cards and settings.... it may not be rocket science, but it has grown a fair degree more complicated to overclock a box properly in the last 5 years.

I've returned three boards, two bad in a row! But I returned a good one the third time, I was so sure they sent me back the same board with the same defect....then I bought some new ram....end of story.

Your not the first to be here, you won't be the last....Learn and grow...":O}

I didn't overclock. I had the problem PRIOR to running a system stability/auto-tuning test, which knocked my FSBs up a bit. Even when increased, I had the same problem. So I loaded my default BIOS settings and started over.

Tried it. 2 different power supplies, two different processors. Same problem with all of them.

updateftwkkthx

Gave my graphics card and HD to Abdul (on AOA) to test. He said they were fine, but reinstalled Windows on the HD and gave it back to me.

And guess what? It works! Not only that, but I managed to get it up to 2.65Ghz and stable.

=O Thanks Abdul! Thanks AOA! <3
