2 of my builds returned as bad builds?

that's right in the last couple weeks I have had 2 frustrated folks return to me computers I built them last year!! They were none to happy. The first was a P-4 2.66 buiolt on a Abit IT-7 Max2 ver.2 mobo Very sweet custom box. The guy calls me and tells me he took his case to a shop and the first thing the technician tells him is that he has never worked on an exotic computer before. Did he pick up his case and leave? NO!!
Well a couple days later the shop calls and tells him his Motherboard is bad and they have no clue what type of motherboard to get to replace it and they have no clue how to get it fixed. Guess no-one around there had ever heard of Abit or knew how to rma a board. So he brings the whole system to me. When I open the case one of the 3 hdd's was not re-screwed in so it has been bouncing around in the case every where he has hauled, It broke the corner off his vid card (Albatron 4280P)
It broke one of his SATA receptacles. They did some nice work. I noticed his CPU cooler was not completely locked down. So I Dismaounted it to re-apply AS-3. When I removed it the cpu just did not look right in the socket. So right in front of the customer I gently removed it to find 24 bent flat and missing pins!!! I dug around here for about an hour and found a 2.66 I used to run daily and stuck it in cleaned up the cooler, reapplied some AS-3 and hit the start button and no go. I shut it off and replaced his one 512 stick of memory and it booted right to life. that was it his only problem and yest the vid card still works. He paid that shop $250 to damage his system. I photographed everything when I opened the case and saw the flying hdd I wrote out an affidvit of what I found and was actually wrong. He is taking the shop to small claims court.

Next case comes back to me along with complaints that it seems to just run slower and slower til it just freezes and they are just really upset
So I bring the case in and opened it up. Now this case has a window it should have been obvious!!! Sit down ladies and gentlemen cuz this is going to makle you feel sick!! Nothing my air compressor could not fix!
Have a look. Some people just should not be allowed to own such equipment!!

Totally the shops fault, you did the right thing sorting it out since you're a nice person. I hope your customers sue these guys to the max.

It's funny how something can run great for so long, then it messes up and it is somehow your fault.
It is a shame what the shop did to that box. I always tell people to bring them back to me. Or I will come look at it even. If it goes to someone else, it has just become your problem.

People should have to take a test before they are allowed to own a computer...

Repair shop, my foot. They have a LOT of nerve. Maybe you should print some stickers saying "bring this to me if there's a problem" for your customer's boxes?

Just disgusting. May be adding a seal in the back that state "warranty void if broken or remove"

Yeah, I'd add a sticker like that. Get one of the ones that falls to bits if tampered with.

Its a tough one, adding a seal on the box may put off prospective customers but I do appreciate the need.

Ultimately, its not a real problem for you if there is proof you werent the cause of the problems.
it may even work in your favour as your customers learn who they can trust.

Well both customers are happy now. Their machines are home and back on the job. The first customer served the mshop with a summon's to small claims court and the shop called them a few days later and refunded their money and paid them $45 dollars for the cpu and $65 for the vid card. Those are prices I found on ebay for the items. I ended up woith a 1.6A northwood as a replacement for my 2.66. I will take it. those were a great little oc'r. The filthy little puter is also back home. I literally had to strip the whole thing down to nothing and wash all thae parts with a scrub brush and dawn soap. I pulled apart the psu to find it full of tar and dust. Yes this case was just sticky as could be on the inside because the people that use it are heavy smokers. the tar build up was gross and the case just wreaked!! I was with alchol all parts the HDD,DVD, Floppy the Freakin mobo. Man it was a mess. It is all running cool now. That was quite a experience

I redid a machine from a heavy smoker before. It was about 2 years old. It was nasty...

Glad you got it straightened up...

Not at all a bad precaution to take in a hospital!! Computers have to collect just about anything air born!

Watch those sharp edges, I'm serious!
