ECS NF3 board dead again

Remember this thread.

Well it is dead again. This time nothing. No lights, no motor cars, nada.

All the components check out fine except the mobo.

I had a terrible time getting this board RMA'd last time. I am still gonna try but I'm not holding my breath.

I am going to buy another board.

Is there a logical reason this could happen twice in less that 12 months?

She has a nice surge suppressor. There are several other computers running in that office. Probably 100,000 in printing equipment. This is the only machine I have had issue with.

Anyone else ever used this board...? link

I absolutely think that it is a power related issue.

I had an ECS NF3 on a cheap 754 I have around here.....LAN port died, then a DIMM slot went bad on me. I tend to stay away from this company now.

If you still have this computer, turn it on and feel of the pll (usually a chip labeled ICS ########). I suspect this is dead, as these control frequencies across the board, they tend to die w/o warning. I've had 2 p4 board die because I didn't heatsync them. I'm pretty sure that this issue has been fixed in newer boards, but it still may exist on some. My boards gets a little warm every now and then, after a few games of Q4 or a hour of Oblivion, so I'm pretty sure its not a issue, but may be.

Also, try making a paper air duct to try to pull air over the NB as in the pics, otherwise, I would have a dead MB by now. Before putting that 2 pieces of notebook paper in there NB was hitting 50c, now only 21c

On three machines, I've gone through 4 PSU in two years, all high quality units. Except for the last one, Brown out in Seattle, I've never known why they die.

So, no, a defective PSU would not surprise me! Good luck with the new board Sam!

That paper air duct is pure genius, well done! Unless something becomes hot enough to ignite paper, that is. Doubtful!

451F, I believe, is the temp that paper burns or ignites.

And components would start to melt before that. Ugh, I dislike that smell!
