Windows Installer Error

after installing WinXP MCE, tried to install XP Office Pro 2K3. I get an error message
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode.
or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed."

help me figure this out. gotta have it!

tia, Ron

Have you wiped your HDD and installed WinXP from scratch after this happened?

I guess it must be wishful thinking that I could fix this without a format and re-install.
if it weren't for the son of my good friend, it would be a Linux box.

did not work. format, re-install, same error msg. could it have anything to do with Activation???
haven't activated this install, yet. all other drivers load nicely.

Make sure you've downloaded and installed all of the updates. In particular, there is a newer version of Windows Installer (I think it is 3.0) than what ships with XP on the installation media.

you are right about the 3.1 installer. there is another problem with the MCE installation. I went to
the Windows BBS and found out how to get it (MCE) installed. fyi; when asked, the second time,
for disc2, put disk1 back in. the install will complete and then download the updates.
up and running now.

Gotta love those "little" got-chas. Well, not quite. Glad all is hunky dory!
