EMachine not posting to bios

I'm trying to get an old Emachine working that a friend gave to me.
I popped in a new hard-drive and Powersupply.

Here's my worklog:

fans spin but won't boot to bios no keyboard lights/ no video
Tried different Ram
Swapped video cards
disconnected all drives, expansion cards
pulled cmos battery

Here are the specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon™ XP 2600+ Processor (2.13GHz) Operating System:
Chipset: VIA KM 266
Memory: 512MB DDR (PC 2100)
Hard Drive: Maxtor 100GB HDD
Allied 350Watt PS

Any ideas what I could try?

Sounds like a bad board. You can usually find a direct replacement for emachine pc's pretty cheap. Look up the number on the board.

You most likely wouldn't miss that Via chipset.

Yep the board is definitely dead. I can smell an electrical burn but I can't find anything on the board that is burn't or exploded. It's just fried in general. I picked up a "recertified" PC Chips board on newegg.com for $30 to replace it. Not sure if that is an upgrade, but if it works I'd be happy.

Got it all put together and boots perfectly. I installed SuSE linux and now have my dedicated server for games.
I only spent about $120 to build this computer.

I got a PC Chips M811LU
It was the cheapest socket A board that I could find. $30

The $120 went into the motherboard $30, Power supply $40, and hard-drive $60.
works pretty well to and now I'm learning linux.

A friend of mine had me go with SuSE 10.2
I'm liking it so far. Troubleshooting is when I have problems.
I've spent many-a-hour on the internet reading how to install something.

I'm stumped with installing Enemy Territory after trying several different things. There is this cool Omnibot that add bots to the game but only on a dedicated server. Works great in windows but installing it on linux is much harder.
