Weird and wonderful error message

Can someone please explain to me why video can't be displayed if an audio device doesnt work?

Here's a guess - It might just be because video playback is synchronised to audio playback? That is, the speed of the audio playback is used to determine the speed of the video to prevent differences in synchronisation. People don't like it when the audio and video aren't synchronised with each other.

Is a common error when a movie/clip is played and it can't find the audio device required for audio output.

I've heard that linux community came up with better implemented security in it's latest Linux Mint Gold version, it's actually preventing the user to log in, thus posing 0 risk in contamining the computer with malware! Well done to the open source community!
