Well I finally got my replacement drive. Took 2 weeks. But they sent me the same type of drive 40 gig. I was hoping I would get a 60 gig. At least the damn thing works now.

I have 1 last question. I want to do a drive to drive copy. I want to backup my entire os to my drive. The problem is that norton ghost keeps giving me an error. All my data is on my new maxtor 60 gig. I want to make a backup on my western digital drive 40gig which is connected on my secondary master. I run ghost under dos and the program keeps giving me an error when I try to do any kind of backup. Whether its drive to drive or drive to image.
My maxtor is NTFS and my WD is as FAT32. I'm not sure if that makes a difference? Any ideas? Or should I use another program?

Ghost will over wright COMPLEATLY the drive you copy to. You may need to run Disk Doctor before you Ghost from your sourse drive.

They should be both ntfs- AND under the options section of ghost- make sure that its not checking for errors-

These are the error messages I keep getting.

NTFS ERROR: ERROR reading File_Volume MFT record

NTFS ERROR: ERROR reading File_Log MFT record

I'm using Norton Ghost 2001 under winxp home ed.

I'm not sure what these errors mean but i think partition magic somehow corrupted a part of my partition. I was using partition magic 7 to add a new partition on my new 60 gig maxtor. I then decided to merge the partitions because I got my 40 gig WD back.

I ran norton disk doctor and no errors are present.
Not Sure what to do now?

Yeah I learned my lesson. Damn partition magic.
I just know how to create a partition and format with fdisk. But I don't wanna mess around with it and loose all my data.
Is there a command so I can fix my partition? Norton Disk Doctor doesn't detect any problems.

Thanks For Your Reply's.

I agree, I had to upgrade to Sys Works 2002, as 2001 wasn't totally compatable with XP.

Nah It didn't work. I already have Norton System Works 2002. I have everything up to date except for Norton Ghost which is 2001.

UPDATE: I just found out that Norton Ghost 2001 is not compatible with WINXP NTFS partitions. Now I gotta go out and get Norton Ghost 2002.

You are right, you need Ghost 2002 which is part of SystemWorks 2002. So the good news is you don't have to go out and buy anything! You can create a Ghost disk disk from the main menu option on SystemWorks 2002. You will nee a WIN 98 boot disk to boot but if you don't have a boot disk you can create one straight from Partition Magic using the emergency disk create program.. Use A:ghost\Ghostpe.exe to access the program. I'm at work so I can't check but I think that's the correct command. The old one used to just be.A:\Ghost but that will not work in 2002.

Good luck, let me know how it goes. I wouldn't be without a "Ghost" in my house!

Ghost 2002 comes bundled with Norton System Works 2002 Professional Edition. I have Norton System Works 2002 standard version. In other words Symantec screwed all of us who have the standard version. I hate it when company's do this!! Those greedy *****!! Yeah, I need ghost 2002 pronto!
