From Doug Erwin:
This evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost. [Front page...]

Looks like our hosting service responded very well and fixed the disaster ASAP. I went to a couple of sites in Texas to see if it was a major weather induced malfunction. I'm so glad that we're up this morning!

Servers & electrical equipment can always be replaced, but people are another story.
Thank God nobody was hurt or killed during the explosion.

Big transformers like that are filled with oil and when a power transformer blows up, it's like a very powerful incendiary bomb.
So it's not just the explosion, but also the burning as well with the oil afterwards.

Considering the extent of the damage...I'd say were lucky to be here today! ":O}

And yeah, no loss of life is a great good thing!

Currently the datacentre that was affected is running on generator power until they can rebuild their electrical room. To be honest, the response from the company that operates the datacentre indicates their seriousness with sorting the issue out - they have worked hard to bring things back on-line however they can!
