Let me begin with apologizing for asking you to even consider thinking about a compaq.

That said, a friend at work brought me this steaming turd with no discs, and a dead hard drive.

It had Vista Home Premium on it. I can get a vista disc to install with, but I'm not sure if it's going to work out as this thing has no floppy drive, and a sata HDD.

Does Vista force you to use a floppy to install the sata driver like 2k and XP?

I'm tempted to stuff the crap drive back in it, and just bring it back to him.

Edit: It's a laptop, don't know why I didn't mention that.

Anyone else think it's kinda stupid that the same people who said "hey, floppies are obsolete, you don't need one" require you to load a driver from your floppy drive to install?

You shouldn't need to load any SATA drivers to load vista.
Sometimes you can get the drivers to load from USB, but if you do need a floppy, one hooked up to USB works - just make sure you charge for the gear.
