Depends on how serious you are. Nothing, nothing is really gone with standard tools. If you aren't spamming for a product [which I suspect, since edwardwilliams and kimberthomas were here already this week] how secure do you want to be?

Arrow

If you aren't spamming (always leery of a post count of 1) then there's lots of free file shredders out there to use...
Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, etc will do the trick.

Trade your existing hard drive with a new one identical with it, take the old one with you... only way to be sure...":O}

I'm with Dan on this. Buy a new drive for the laptop and keep the old one. problem gone. But... what kinda files do you have on a COMPANY laptop that they COMPANY that OWNS it shouldn't see? Maybe you should rethink what you are putting on there in the first place.

All I can think of is delete and empty the recycle bin.
If its illegal content then it will have to be removed a better way, but maybe it shouldn't have been on the computer in the first place.
I was reading an article about restoring deleted files that were emptied from the recycle bin... and it said that as long as you havn't created a bunch of new files, then it should still be on the hard drive. The file system just tells the deleted space that its available for writing over.
So........
after you empty the recycle bin, just create a bunch of new files on the computer, whether its music, pictures or just a bunch of temporary internet files, hopfully it will over write your deleted files.

drive-by poster? Yea there are free programs that can help you. Its to my knowledge that once you delete something its still exists until you write something over that section of the hard drive that had the files.

You would need to erase everything on the drive, if you want to be certain.

How to use Secure Erase, which is built in to many drives:
How to REALLY erase a hard drive | ZDNet

If you were to just delete files selectively, including overwriting the data, then there is always the risk that you'll overlook something.
