Did you assign it a driver letter in disc management? Just right click the drive and go to "change drive letter and path"

I'm guessing the file system got really corrupted somehow. So it sees the drive phyically, but can't read it. You might need to find some 3rd party recovery program.

with some does knowledge you can boot into dos and copy the relevent sections of the disk to your own drive.

ie: copy "e:\stuff\ c:\"

which copies his data folder called stuff to your main drive

Hi robbie, havent seen you for a whyle welcome to AOA.

HDD problems are very annoying spyder.

Try copying via DOS, it might work.

Try running the drive in PIO mode from the bios.

If you cant find a way to see whats on the disk then its going to be a bugger to fix it, and specialist software will probably be needed.

You havent missed anything obvious like NTFS have you ?

First step is to see if Windows has recognised the existance of the hardware, check in the device manager - From your comments, I'm presuming you've done this...

Second, check the partition type on the drive - it'll fail to show in windows if windows doesn't recognise the partition type. The disk manager should (I think) give you these details. If not, then FDisk should.

Is it possible that a drive manager overlay is on the disk? (One of those bits of software to allow a machine to see over the 3/8Gb mark). Some of them do odd things to the disk layout.

I envy the simplicity(after you tried all those other steps) of your hardware problem's resolution. T'is a sweeter sound heard than the gentle caress of a PITA HDD with a sledgehammer? I'm chomping at the bit to "adjust" my 75GXP in as delicate a manner.
