Mr. Gates, meet ted rogers, I respect ted more than I do you!

I upgraded my directx from 8.0a to 8.1. I was planning on running 3D2001SE instead of 3D2001. After upgrading my dx I ran 2001 just to see how much performance boost I got from the direct x, my scores went from 2521 all the way up to 1221. And my cpu is running hotter and I can't uninstall or de-install to a lower level dx.

1) Anyone got any suggestions?

2) Read my thoughts, cause I can't say it here (you know what I'm thinking and who I'm thinking it to).

Have you updated your video card drivers? If you have, try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers again.

my m8 stu had this problem

can u imagine how he must have felt, me with my GF256 DDR whooping his GF3 ti 200 in 3dmark? he fixed it by reinstalling everything i believe, but he also got a new motherboard which may have been what solved the problem (was a kt133 and i think they have probs with a few vid cards)

That's hard to believe, but not impossible

I'd try reinstalling 4-in-1 drivers, directx 8.1, then your video/sound drivers and if that doesn't solve it, reinstalling windows may be your only guarantee.

Reinstall your graphics drivers.

Make sure that performance reducing options such as FSAA are turned OFF.

Check in the bios that your AGP apeture anf fastwrites are enabled.

You can uninstall DX sometimes, people have written uninstallers to do so. They are homemade and may well make things worse, worth a try as a last resort rather than reinstall windows.

What graphics card is it ?

If its a geforce download geforcetweak utility from guru3d.com, often hacking settings in there can get things running fast again.
