CD Drive Problem

I have a Creative 52x cd drive. During posting the bios is detecting drives and will not boot into Windows.
I disconnect the drive then it boots into windows. I then reinstall the drive and will go into windows. The drive will then work fine.
This happens once in awhile. Any Ideas?
My specs are in the signature block.

Try changing the channel, otherwise I haven't a clue.

The drive is not dead yet. If I can find a flash I think I will try it.

Do you have the CDROM connected to a RAID controller?
Some are kinda flaky, and don't work well with anything but HDDs. Just a thought.

I just have HDD'S on the raid. And yes Creative seems to have problems with their drives as I saw some user forums of folks complaining about them.
Anyone got a suggestion for a new drive?

Get a Toshiba or Memorex. Try TEAC as well. But, hell. just go to NewEgg.com and pickup a no-frills no-name 56x cdrom for like $25. They work just fine. Creative drives are crap. My Creative burner sucked from the beginning.

I have a Lite-ON 50something-too-fast speed CDROM in my server, and I am impressed with the speed and quietness of the drive, and from newegg if was like $40 shipped

'Fraid Creative's CD-ROM drives don't have the best reputation. You might check out a Lite-On. Or Plextor--for more.

watch out for the super-cheep ones- a few of my friends havent been able to read stamped CDs or CD-r(w)s with them
also if you care you might want to check if the drive youre buying can be made region-free via a bios hack

Toshiba DVD drives are some of the best for the price, and a google search will result in all sorts of region free updates for the Toshiba drives

I personally have one and IMHO it outperforms the Pioneer DVDROM I had prior to it (or else why replace it, right? :rolleyes ).
