Need Help With My Bios

When I was flashing the bios on my Epox 8k3a+, something went wrong and the bios flash failed. When I tried to reflash it, it said something about the checksum not matching and wouldn't let me flash it. Restore doesn't work either since I don't have the old.bin file. Is getting a new bios chip the only way to fix it? Or is there a easier way to fix it?

If you can download another image file I'd try flashing back to an earlier ver. first. Check our EPoX topic, I believe there are several different ones Posted there by EPoX Tech.

Thats the problem, I can't flash to any versions of the bios. I'm getting a checksum error.

Sounds like you will need to have your BIOs chip either re-programed or buy a replacement.Having been lucky enough to have not had this happen to me, I don't know the procedure.

Just for the heck of it try re-setting the CMOS and try it again. I have NO IDEA if this has the slightest chance of working, but I'd try it.

removing the battery and resetting the cmos is your best bet...

also, how are you flashing? Off a floppy or letting the motherboard do it? I believe the preferred method is letting the motherboard load the .bin file...

I've tried all of the above. I just called technical support and they're sending me a bios chip free of charge. So I'm just hoping that it'll fix it.

I'm glad that it's working! I can't imagine Asus sending you a new BIOS chip for free.

Probably not, but we all became believers in the higher powers of Epox overnight with the ethics they seem to have instilled in their customer service/support.
