Heat ofcoarse will make you lock aswell, try running the system with the case side OFF. Grab a house fan and point it into open case, now run the games ect... see if you lockup now. In addition we are all thinking you have a good install of the OS, or you have done a fresh install at some point during your adventure here. If not that could be it aswell.

That's a bit sharp maybe. I think he means that your suggestions have already been made.

deary me, we have got off on the wrong foot,
when I said these problems were eliminated I mean the heat and the OS have been looked at and not found at fault

I would like help, help is great. But in earlier posts the heat and OS issues are addressed

1st post:
So I changed his OS to XP and it still did the same thing.

5th post:
I hate to dissapoint you caffinehog but my duron runs at 65c constant and has not crashed since I can remember, my friend dave runs his at about the same and his is rock stable as well. He is using a pretty dcent Taisol cooler which is keeping the thing nice and around 40.

Update:
The geforce 4 was tried in my machine and worked fine, so it would seem extremely likely its his mobo, as my PSU is only 300w and his 400w so it wouldnt be a power issue.

I've removed two posts.

Loop, it really isn't necessary to comment on advice you don't wish to accept. It does you no harm to let it be.

a few possiblilitys here.

1 - Poor or corrupt windows setup, possible bad HDD.
2 - Bad or insufficent PSU, high wattage does not mean its good
3 - Possible bad motherboard.
4 - Possible bad graphics card.
5 - Cooling problems.

As you have your PC there you can easily rule out most of these.

Try the graphics card in your PC and give it a real workout, does it run ok ?

Try his HDD in your box with the GF4, can you install windows and is it stable ?

Try your PSU on his box with the GF4 and verified good HDD, not a perfect test but it should help to rule out PSU (although your k7s5a isnt going to load the PSU like your friends mobo)

Cooling is easy to test, take the case side off and blow a load of air in there.

I doubt its a board incompatability persay, update the bios.
Try with another AGPx4 graphics card (your GF3)

Personally i think it is either the processor or motherboard. I was running an athlon 1 gig on an asus a7a266, and it decided it hated me and started to randomly reset. So i tried my old k7s5a. The k7 wasnt exactly in the best condition and it did the smae thing. Because of its general decrepitude, im not sure if it was the mobos or processor, seeing as how it refused to boot at normal speed, i was suck running it at 750. Whatever.

^_^

I have an Abit KT7A Raid rev. 1.02 . I had what seems to be the same problem.
I got this idea from where I don't remember.
1. Remove the OS
2. Go into bios and disable AGP-4X mode
3. Install the OS
4. Enable AGP 4-X
5. Install drivers if necessary
If all works well image the drive before updating anything.
