Hard drive Crashed
My computer just shut down randomly and would not get passed the loading windows screen after it restarted. After some testing i've realised that the main partition on my hardrive is no longer working.

It says that the enitre partition is empty and cannot be read. Is there any way i can regain access to the hard drive or fix this problem. i've got some very very important coursework that i just cant loose at any cost.

Hard to say. If the drive is physically damaged there's not much you can do about it.

If you have another partition with an OS you can attempt to repair the file structure. If the problem is the file structure and your file system is NTFS you should be good to go.
If not, find yourself a bootable version of 'spinrite' and attempt to repair and salvage as much as you can. However I'm not sure it's still free software.

Well HD cant be damaged cause the other partition is still intact,

I am running recovery software as we speak.

I know this is no use to you now, but in future, please PLEASE back up all your work as you go.
It's not worth the risk. Just buy a El Cheapo hard drive, bung it in a caddy and back up your important work EVERY DAY.
By doing this, you can minimise the problems you encounter. Trouble is, people never do this, including me!

If the recovery doesn't work, try putting it in another PC as a secondary hard drive and see if you can regain all your work.

Or boot off another partition on your hard drive.

If you manage to get access to your work, back it up immediately! =O
